The Physics Academy of North East (PANE) was inaugurated by the well known educationist and physicist, late Prof G. C. Deka at the Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati on 6th April, 1998 in a function with the chairmanship of Dr. D.N. Boragohain, the then Director of the institute. The Academy was the brainchild of a gathering of eminent physicists of North East India, on November 11, 1997, at IIT Guwahati, celebrating hundred years of discovery of electron. The genesis of the program led by Prof. K. M. Pathak, the former Vice-chancellor of Tezpur University, gave a wakeup call of establishing such an academy with the aim of promoting physics research and education, wide dissemination of physics information, physics thoughts and culture, placement of physics graduates of North East region. Since inception, PANE has been regularly organizing its biennial series of conferences apart from various workshops and PANE lectures at different institutions.

The XIIIth Biennial National Conference of Physics Academy of North East (PANE), 2022 will be held during 8-10th (Tuesday-Thursday) November, 2022 at the Department of Physics, Manipur University, Canchipur-795003, Imphal, Manipur. The PANE conference will be organized in blended (offline + online) mode as the pandemic is still not over yet. The first of the series was held at IIT, Guwahati on October 17, 1998, and XIIth Conference was organized by Tripura University during 15-17 December, 2021. We are expecting hundreds of research contributions during the Conference. Many distinguished physicists and Scientists across the country and overseas will deliver invited talks at the conference. Young researchers will be awarded for the best oral & poster presentations in each sub-theme. PANE 2022 Conference will provide a platform where Physicists, Scientists and young researchers across the country can share their knowledge, experiences, innovations and inventions among the participants and create professional networks for collaborative research.

The Department was established in March 4th, 1977. The first batch of M.Sc course was started in 1978 with Prof. H. Nandakumar Sarma as the founder Head of Department. The Department is supported by DST, Government of India, under the FIST programme (Level II) and the UGC, New Delhi, under the Special Assistance programme at DRS-II level. The alumni of this Department are well placed, holding distinguished positions in different parts of India and overseas. The faculty members are actively involved in research activities and have been publishing research papers in both national and international journals.

Manipur University, one of the Premier Central University of this country, situated to a remote place in North-Eastern State, Manipur, is excelled in research, academic and cultural development. Manipur University was established on 5th June 1980 under the Manipur University Act.1980 (Manipur Act 8 of 1980), as a teaching-cum-affiliating University at Imphal with territorial jurisdiction over the Manipur state and converted into a Central University w.e.f. 13/10/2005. The University has 108 affiliated colleges inclusive of 2 medical colleges and Manipur Institute of Technology(MIT), a constituent college of the University.

The University Campus is only 7 km, from the heart of Imphal city on the Indo-Myanmar Road (National Highway 39). The Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Tulihal, Imphal has situated around 11 km from the Campus. Tourists can directly fly to Manipur as the airport is located in the capital of the state i.e., Imphal.There are daily flights that connect Imphal with Delhi via Guwahati and Kolkata. In addition, Imphal is also connected by road with Dimapur by NH-2 and Silchar by NH-37. Jiribam and Dimapur are the nearest railheads for Manipur which are 225 km and 215 km away from Imphal.
